Website Maker
Note: A website called Stinge that was previously posted here for making websites no longer exists and is now a porn site.
Weebly (www.Weebly.com)
Website, blog, and store-front creator. The free version allows the user to create a 5-page website (to add more pages, you must upgrade). The user can change the background image to another image in the gallery, or can upload another image. The site has an array of texts, colors and formats to choose from. Images can be easily uploaded to selected pages. The software walks you through “building” your site, so it is pretty easy. A free education version is available that allows teachers to make larger websites and to set up student websites within the teacher account (http://education.weebly.com/).
WordPress (https://wordpress.com/)
WordPress allows people to create their own free website, or blog. This site allows for individual personalization, as there are many options for website themes, and the input of photos and media. WordPress also allows for links to Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and LinkedIn, as well as creating your own personal link and web address to the page itself. WordPress would be a valuable resource for teachers, as they could create their own classroom websites or blogs, to communicate with parents about what is going on in the classroom. For example, a website could be used to put different links to material covered in class, such as videos and files. Similarly, a blog could be used to talk about different topics that the class discusses, so the parents are aware of what the students are learning. This tool is easy to use, and has many options for personality and style, which makes it favorable. Limited free use, not designed for education.
