Drawing and "Whiteboard" Tools
Sketch-toy (http://www.sketchtoy.com/)
Sketch-Toy is an application that can be used to for free hand sketch. The size and color of the line can be changed, but that’s about it. Paint can do much more than this, but I do see its value. Sketch Toy has a vibrating feature that makes the drawn lines vibrate, and the frequency of the vibration can be changed. I could see how this could be helpful for students with disabilities as it makes seeing the lines much easier and more engaging. It also has gridlines on the page which could help in the same cases.
Google Drawings (https://docs.google.com/drawings)
Although this is called a drawing tool, it also allows for adding typed text and importing images.
Miro (https://miro.com/)
Miro is an online application where students can create essentially their own collaborative interactive WhiteBoard screen, where they are able to upload pictures, videos and documents. This application is great way to get students using technology in the classroom, especially when it is done in a collaborative environment with other students as a group. This application is one where students can create their own work, and then share their findings either to just the teacher or with the entire class. This app is very applicable to my future as an educator as well, since the school I will be at actually has a smartboard where this application can be used well. This application also lends itself really well to group projects, since it links right with Google docs, where students can share their projects online and work together as a group even if they aren’t together in person. This application is almost like an concept map, to where students can organize ideas and content information in a more logical, creative, and organized fashion. It also allows for media enhancement, such as pictures, texts, comments, and the option to upload documents straight to the project board. This application is free, easy to use, and is a great way to enhance learning in any science class. It can even be drawn on, high lighted, and comments can be made on it directly. Designed for business use rather than education; free account is somewhat limited.
Limnu (https://limnu.com/educator/)
This is a collaborative whiteboarding tool. It allows groups of students to work on problems together online. There are video and chat functions and the ability to save and share whiteboards. The interface is decesnt but I think there could be more tooltips. I think this would be good for students to use over the course of longer collaborative assignment that they might work on outside of school. There is a specific free deal for educators.
Educreations (https://www.educreations.com/)
It is a whiteboard where you can record your voice and handwriting, while also being able to insert pictures. Teachers can create their own video lessons and share them online with his or her students. These would be ideal as pre-lessons the night prior to lesson or/and they can be used as additional support after the lesson is delivered. Educreations also gives students the opportunity to create their own video lessons when explaining a problem and/or their work. Educreations can be useful in the elementary classroom because it gives teachers the opportunity to record their own lessons. These lessons can be used as pre-lessons or additional support for students. It can also be used in the classroom to give students the opportunity to record and publish their work for the class to see (this can serve as additional support for students who may be struggling with a certain concept). Free basic plan.
