Posters and Infographics
Poster My Wall (https://www.postermywall.com/index.php/edu)
This application allows users to create posters that can be downloaded and printed out once finished. Users can pick from templates or create their own from scratch. Some of the features include: adding photos, text, word art, and clipart. There are many fonts and colors available to choose from. Users can easily undo an action or remove an item by clicking on the appropriate buttons. Teachers can create a special education account to add more privacy settings for student use. This application would be useful for students in a number of different ways. On the first day of school, students can use templates to create about me posters or they could create visual posters as a way to show what they have learned in a specific unit by combining images and text. Instead of using actual poster board to create posters, students can use this application.
Posterini (http://www.posterini.com/)
There are hundreds of templates teachers and students can choose from. You just choose a template and double-click text to edit it with any information you want. You are also given the option to upload images. When you are done with the poster, they can be saved and uploaded to a folder. This website can be useful for teachers because they cannot only create their own classroom posters, but they can have their students create their own posters too. Students can create their own poster about anything (any subject or topic). They can then share their poster with the whole class, in small groups, or only the teacher. This is a free website, so if students have access to an ipad/laptop/computer at home or in school, they can use it.
Piktochart (http://piktochart.com/)
This app allows students to make an infographic brochure project. Students can plug in information such as statistics, facts or any type of graphics and display it in a fun and easy to read way. I like this app because there are many different vibrant styles to pick from and the students can incorporate charts, diagrams and pictures within their brochure which is extremely engaging for students instead of just writing paragraphs. Then the students can gain practice making pie charts and line and bar graphs which can be extremely beneficial for math lessons and displaying information to other students. I think Piktochart is very useful for elementary teachers because it provides entertaining and interactive methods to display information and create projects.
Canva (https://www.canva.com/)
Canva is an online application that allows students to create their own images by combining photographs, icons, and text. It also provides a seemingly endless number of beautiful layouts and backgrounds. This could definitely be used in the classroom. For example, a teacher could use Canva to create his or her own infographics; Canva would allow the teacher to customize every single aspect with ease.
Easel.ly (http://www.easel.ly/)
This is an infographic application tool that is easy to use. Students can start by choosing a theme and then they can drag and drop new art and add text to fit their data presentation needs. The website provides its own art images that can be added to the template as well. These images can be enlarged and decreased in size, all up to the creator’s choice. This tool allows students to have freedom in creating an image that displays their data efficiently and is easy to learn how to use. This is a useful tool for teachers as well in their own lesson plans as they can advertise data and statistics in a much more visually-appeasing way that will not lose their attention like the use of a Powerpoint.
