Video/Animation
Goanimate for education no longer exists. It has been replaced by Vyond, which is business-oriented and very expensive and not designed for privacy for education.
Powtoon (http://www.powtoon.com/)
This tool allows you to make animated presentation videos. There are premade templates, images, animation effects, and so on, which make it user friendly. Still, it takes some practice to get the hang of making these animated presentations. This tool is useful for teachers in creating short presentations. It would be difficult to use this in the same manner as a power point presentation as the final product is a video rather than a slideshow. I think this tool is somewhat useful for elementary teachers as it can be a fun way to introduce a unit or a topic, but it would not be useful in relaying lengthy amounts of information to students. There is a limited free account.
Wideo (http://wideo.co/)
One pedagogical strategy that’s new and increasing in popularity is the idea of flipped classrooms. I came across an app called Wideo, which is an app used for creating animated videos on the computer. I thought this was really cool, and definitely worth noting. Usually, video websites only allow you to edit existing pictures or videos. Wideo is definitely different in the sense that it actually lets you create animations from scratch to make certain frames transition better and animate concepts. I see this used exactly like a flipped classroom. It would be great to spend more time with students in the classroom doing inquiry based lessons with concepts they already know something about. It is free, easy to use, and it can be linked to your email. However, this is a business-oriented application and the free account is very limited (1-minute videos).
